Mike to remain eligible
for amateur competition

The two-time U.S. National Champion and 2002 Olympic Team member has officially announced he will remain eligible for amateur competition during the 2002-2003 season.

Mike is having too much fun to leave the competitive arena.

Mike said his Grand Prix schedule will be: Oct. 23-27 at Skate America at Spokane, Washington; Nov. 7-10 the Nations Cup Nov. at Gelsenkirchen, Germany; and Nov. 28-Dec. 1 the NHK in Kyoto, Japan.

Skaters can choose two Grand Prix events to earn points toward the GP Championship. Mike will decide nearer the competitive season which two he will count.

"I just wanted to see if I enjoyed skating as much as I had in the past and I seem to be enjoying it more now than ever before," Mike said. He turned 26 years old on August 2.

When Mike begins competing he said the quad-lutz will be in his competitive programs and a sensational back flip with a full turn will be attempted during his exhibition programs.

"I’m in a position that I don’t have to hold anything back. I never backed down from anything and trying anything outrageous," Mike said.

This past summer Weiss opened a store on his Web site at www.michaelweiss.org, which included the new "Freedom" blades he introduced on tour.
