Mike wins Bronze at Skating Classic

October 3, 2003

Michael Weiss finished third in the Campbell’s International Figure Skating Classic at New York’s Madison Square Garden Friday night, Oct. 3.

It was the first event of the season with an elite men’s field.

“I had a rough start and missed the quad but skated the last five triples well,” Michael said. “The last section was skated with the emotion and passion that Don wanted. I was telling Peter Carruthers in an interview, that the funny thing was, it worked out exactly like we have been working last section over and over.”

After Michael landed his second triple Axel he nailed his final triple jumps – the loop, Axel, lutz and flip.

“Actually I’m happy with it. I’m not thrilled, but I can take a lot of positives from this program,” Michael said. “I need to work on the opening which is most important. But it’s the first event of the season, and I have a good feel where we need to go.

“I was talking with Lisa and Don, and we know you might not see it now, but we see the potential in this program. It is going to be pretty good.”

Michael will be in Greenwich, Conn., Saturday to sign autographs for a Capezio-sponsored event at Beam and Barre.

On Friday night, Michael and Lisa had dinner at Rocco’s Restaurant, where the NBC reality show is filmed, and received a tour of the kitchen and met the owner. “It was a great dinner, and we had fun meeting Mama, who’s a star of her own now by owning the restaurant.”
