Michael featured on The Real Winning Edge
The Real Winning Edge began its broadcast on the regional sports networks with a bang -- nearly 600 hits on within the first week.
The series is airing on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) at 5:30 on Wednesday evenings, and 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoons through the end of August. It’s also on Comcast Local in the Midwest at different airtimes.

If Comcast is your internet provider, you can find the channel listing information on their Web site, by clicking the Programming tab, then clicking “What’s On,” and entering your ZIP code in the box provided.
Let’s see. What would you rather be?
A national champion or awful hockey player?
July 8, 2007
Michael Weiss has always enjoyed hockey. He played frequently while touring with Champions On Ice and has played recreationally for the past few years.
This is the first year he’s had time to compete on a team playing one game a week.
Although it’s a recreation league he makes it clear he doesn’t like to finish anywhere but first. “We do pretty good in the beginning of the game, and can go up 2-0 or 3-0. But then we end up losing in the final period. I told the guys last week, ‘Look, I hate losing, and I don’t want to lose anymore.’ We’ll see if we can turn it around next week.”
Michael likes playing in a league where he isn’t easily recognizable wearing a beard or when he has a helmet on. “A friend of mine is on the team, and he’s about the only one who knows what I’ve done, in figure skating,” said Michael.
Michael said his anonymity helps him enjoy some of the bantering that goes on in the locker room among players. “I am one of the better skaters, but most of the people don’t know me or that I have figured skated all my life.
“A player was describing how he hurt his foot, broke this bone and that bone when he was a young skater. He said, ‘My parents wanted me to take up figure skating to get better skating skills.’ Then he told his teammates what he told his parents. He said, ‘I’d rather be the most horrible hockey skater than win the national championship in figure skating.’
“My friend and I just looked at each other and didn’t say anything. We just grinned,” said Michael.
For the record, Michael is a three-time U.S. National Champion and two-time Olympic competitor.
Fun summer filled with family and friends
July 7, 2007
Michael Weiss may not be competing but he’s just as busy getting ready for his 2007 Michael Weiss Foundation Show, beginning preparations for several shows to be performed for TV, and is just months away from practice for the 2008 Stars On Ice season which will also visit Japan for two weeks in January.
The summer gives Michael time to enjoy his family and visiting friends, too. Just this past week Michael attended his first PGA golf tournament, the AT&T National, at the Congressional Golf Club in Bethesda, Maryland. He traveled with his wife, Lisa, on a weekend to Chesterfield, Virginia, for her annual “roommates weekend”.
Michael enjoyed a weekend in Newport, Rhode Island, to view the Tall Ships weekend in late June and last week spent July 4 with the families’ cookout. “We grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, and the whole family got together,” said Michael.
On Thursday Michael and his brother-in-law went to the AT&T National and followed Tiger Woods during his first round. “We ran into Tony Kornhiser (Washington Post writer and Monday Night Football broadcast team). We talked a little about skating and golf and our families. I can’t believe the Congressional is just a short distance from my home, and I’ve never been!
“The Tall Ships weekend was magnificent,” said Michael. “We had never been to Newport at that time. We stayed at a nice place and sat in Adirondack chairs as the ships passed by.” As the ships passed the spectators watched Revolutionary War soldiers firing blank cannon rounds and the ships would return fire.
Michael said he is cutting back on a couple of skating shows this fall. “We have to have two different numbers for each show and that was hard last year to do that and make all my commitments. I’m definitely doing Kristy and Friends (September 29), Skating & Gymnastics (October 14), the Holiday Show (November 6) and Country On Ice (December 13). We open Stars On Ice in late November. That’s a lot of preparation I’ll have to do.”
